Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
– 1 Thessalonians 5:18 –
As we plunge head on into the holidays, let’s make sure we take time to be thankful for the numerous blessing we have around us. Some of them are hard to spot due to their often frustrating appearance, but underneath all of the stress and worry, we have a multitude of things to be thankful for this season and for seasons to come.
1. Our tiny humans.
For us mommies, one of the most obvious things to be thankful for comes in the form of tiny little humans who poop, eat, and sleep, and call us mommy. Well, I haven’t had the privilege of being called mommy yet (Leona is only 3 months old) but I’m sure I’ll melt when the time comes! Their presence in our lives is a testament of God’s brilliant creation. They show us just how strong we really are, and bring forth a love that we never thought existed. So in the midst of long nights and nostalgic moments of our lives before our babies, lets be thankful that God has trusted us with these precious little lives, it is truly an amazing gift.
2. Our homes.
Here’s where it can get frustrating. I think if we actually sat down and counted how many times we’ve wiped down the countertops, folded the laundry, and vacuumed the carpet in a single year, the numbers would shock us. Keeping the ship afloat is no small task and it can get painstakingly repetitive. But we are the ones who make our homes into the havens that they are. Its the place where your kids feel safe and at peace, the home that your husband comes home to and can rest in, and the place we all end up missing when we go on vacation. So be thankful for the socks that mysteriously go missing and the countertop that cannot seem to stay clean for an hour. Your home is where your family feels love, and that’s a wonderful thing.
3. Our friends.
Friends are truly a gift from God. They surround us with love and support, and sometimes keep it real with us when we need it. We were not meant to live in isolation, we need one another and keeping friends close is so important. Think of those solid friends in your life who have seen you at your worst and still remain committed to friendship, let them know you are thankful for them.
